Redmer Hoekstra

Using fineliners, Redmer Hoekstra (1982) creates the most stunning and surrealistic illustrations. His associative mind connects different shapes and figures, leading to fascinating and unexpected combinations.

Redmer graduated in 2009 from the art academy in Zwolle as a visual artist and illustrator.

Redmer on his work:
'I have always loved estrangement and fantasising, daydreaming. As a child I had all sorts of theories about how the world worked, and at the academy I was able to rediscover this and incorporate it into my drawings. The inner workings of things fascinate me, and you can see this in many of my drawings — for example by opening up devices and objects and then freely filling in what’s inside. This often gives a subject a completely different feeling or meaning. I associate on form, meaning and function, creating new combinations. Often surprising, strange and funny, but also with a peculiar kind of logic, in a fantastical and surreal world.'

He sells original drawings, art prints, cards and books via Etsy, and has created a ceramics collection in collaboration with Heinen Delfts Blauw.
