Noëlle Smit

Noëlle Smit studied at the University of the Arts Utrecht, and graduated in 1999. Since then she has been working as an illustrator of children’s books, some of which have been translated in over ten other languages. Noëlle made illustrations for Superfriends, Fiet wants to Run, Nippertje, Pom Ti Dom, Rico is unafraid, and many more.

Rico is unafraid was the first Dutch Little Golden Book to have been published in he United States, in the 60-year history of the Little Golden Book. It was published in the US entitled Rico the brave sock monkey. The picture book Fiet wants to Run by Bibi Dumon Tak and Noëlle Smit, won the Picture Book of the Year Award in 2011.

Noëlle produced the Willemijn series, together with author Lida Dijkstra. She also worked with the Concertgebouw on two bundled verses booklets, entitled Sing along with us and Ik sta Paf, and made the poster for the children’s concert Ik sta Paf. Several apps were released following the books: Fiet Wil Rennen, Nippertje, De Wedstrijd, Diner voor twee en Super Vrienden.
Apart from her work as an illustrator for children’s books Noëlle also provides animations and production as well as costume designs for theatre productions. She designed the production of Zachtjes gaan de Paardenvoetjes by Ageeth de Haan. This theatre production is now on stage, in it ’s second theatrical season. Noëlle Smit and Ageeth de Haan, singer and theatre performer, have made two books together. A Santa Clause booklet Zachtjes gaan de Paardenvoetjes and a Christmas Booklet De herdertjes lagen bij Nachte.

Noëlle has clients in The Netherlands, France and Germany and works on commission for companies.
